Mr. Aaron Lamar Fortner, age 73 of Calhoun, died Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Redmond Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health. He was born in Gordon County on August 25, 1940, son of the late Malgum Henry (Abe) Fortner and the late Myrtle Marie Duvall Fortner.
Mr. Fortner was a member of the 1958 graduating class of Red Bud High School, and was a member of the school basketball team. He previously served on the Gordon County Board of Education, the Lions Club, and was a member of New Town Baptist Church. He retired from the Xerox Corporation, Atlanta Division, as a Technical Representative.
He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Julia Mallory Fortner; two daughters, Kim Pott and her husband Jason, and Dana Brown, all of Calhoun; grandchildren, Hayden Brown and Tiffany Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Thomas, Addison Brown, Bryleigh Elkins, and Breea Thomas.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Aaron Lamar Fortner will be held Wednesday, December 11th at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Music will be arranged by Maudie Campbell Weaver and Kathryn Quinn. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Lamar Dean, Juddie Campbell, Tim Duvall, Viron Cronon, Lester Duvall, Bobby Duvall, and Jimmy Silvers. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Thomason, Charles Williams, Truett Moss, Steve Cochran, Reed Davis, Paul McEntyre, and Mac Willix.
The Fortner family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
