Agatha S. Shirley

Agatha S. Shirley (Gatha) passed peacefully on April 24, 2025 in the arms of her Beloved Daughter, “Jenny.”

Agatha’s mother Audrey gave birth to her at home on January 11, 1935 in Gordon County. Agatha was a resident of Calhoun for the entirety of her 90 years.

Agatha was blessed to live a long, healthy life thus was preceded in death by her parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. These included special Aunt, Jessie R. Bell, close Cousins, John Bell, Jack Bell, Jack Knight, Lottie Bell McCall and Special Friends Estelle Seabolt Tow, Colene Seabolt, Scotty Meadows, Sarah Combs, Carolyn Robinson and Ruth Davis. Agatha was also preceded in death by an infant son, Resinald Nate Seabolt Jr.

Agatha is survived by Husband, Asa Shirley, Devoted Daughter Jennifer S. Thomason and Son-In Law, Steve, Much loved Niece, Sharon Greeson, Great Niece and Nephew Paige Reddix and Chad Greeson, Special Cousin, Teri Bell, Adored “ chosen daughter,” Laronda Causby Roberts, Grandsons of her heart, Gardner and William Linn, Dear Friend, Jennifer Bishop and Cherished Lifelong Friend, Anne Kelley. 

Agatha began her career at Calhoun First National Bank employed by Bank Director and friend, Bert Lance. She retired from Carriage Industries in 1997 where she worked for Supervisor, Pat White and Owner, Clarence Harris. Not one to sit idle for long Agatha returned to part time work at Fitness First of Calhoun. There she worked for her absolute favorite and most adored employer and friend, Owner Pam Stephens.

Agatha really enjoyed being outdoors so per her request a Christian Celebration of Life will take place at Chandler Cemetery Pavilion on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 1 p.m.
