Agnes Ann Boswell went to heaven to meet her Lord and Savior on February 5, 2017 in the solitude of her home in Rome, GA. She was born at Harbin Hospital in Rome and was the only child of Madeline and Lloyd Boswell.
When she was a year old, she and her parents moved to Hill City to live with her grandmother whom she adored. Her church was very important to her and at 15 years old she felt Gods leadership to go into full time Christian service.
She graduated from Calhoun High School as first salutatorian. She then attended Norman College, Norman Park GA and at that time introduced herself as just "Ann" since so many people mispronounced her name. Though she is still "Agnes Ann" to her beloved Hill City family. She moved to Mississippi College and graduated with a degree in English and began teaching at Valley Point High School, Dalton Georgia where she received the Star teaching award.
She attended Southern Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky, prior to serving as Youth Minister at First Baptist Church, Griffin, Georgia. Griffin became home to her as she made a profound influence in the lives of youth and adults who became life-time friends.
Ann felt Gods leadership to go into counseling. She received a Masters degree in counseling from Georgia State University. She taught 8th grade English in Henry County Junior High School in McDonough, Georgia. Moving to Rome, she became a counselor at West Rome Junior High where she was listed in Whos Who Among Americas teachers. She then served as a Rome Middle School counselor and coordinated the community mentoring program. This program received the Georgias Children First award in 1997 which received national attention. She left education with a total of 33 years and a love for young people that endured throughout her life.
Ann was a life deacon at First Baptist Church, Rome and was very instrumental in the redesigning the churchs beautiful prayer room. The power of prayer was demonstrated in every facet of her life. She also served as a teacher in the Scrap Iron and Fidelis Sunday School classes.
Anns home embraced everyone who entered with a beautiful spiritual awareness as she held numerous Bible studies and prayer vigils. For many years, she developed a passion for prayer believing that prayer is the Christians greatest resource. She bought a log cabin anointed especially for prayer in the beautiful northwest Georgia mountains to begin a prayer ministry.
Even though Ann was a single lady she had hundreds of "children" whose lives she helped shape and mold in the way Gods plans had in mind for them. From birth, adolescence to adulthood, she "walked the walk" with them.
This stately, reserved Godly woman could surprise you with a sudden fling with a golf club, exotic trip or a ride in her red convertible. No wonder she earned the affectionate name of "Bos" from her Griffin youth.
She autographed her life and others with Gods indelible ink that time will never erase and she leaves a legacy in her life she touched. We celebrate her "heavenly homecoming" and await to see the fruit of her labor mature and flourish in the hearts of generations to come.
May we all honor her with a commitment to follow her example of planting the seed of Christs love "Pray without ceasing"!
She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of (retired teachers) in the I0TA Chapter where she twice served as President, and was very active in all activities. In addition, she was a member of the Xavier Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
