Alfred Loranza Roberts

Mr. Alfred Loranza "Jack" Roberts, age 87 of Calhoun, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Gordon Hospital following five years of declining health. He was born in Whitfield County on July 28, 1923, son of the late Henry and Mary Freeman Roberts. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Dymple Greeson Roberts; two brothers, Freeman Roberts and Eddie Roberts; a sister, Mary Rhodes; and his step-mother, Myrtle Roberts. He was of the Baptist faith.

During his lifetime, Mr. Roberts was employed as a supervisor at Echota Cotton Mills until its closing, a farmer, and a landlord. He was well-known for his wood crafts.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rickey and Orvinell Roberts, and Dennie and Sylvia Roberts; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Margie Roberts, and Randall and Maxie Roberts; and four sisters, Henrietta Fox, Katherine Lewis and her husband Bill, Hilda Worthington and her husband Sam, and Wanda Thurman and her husband Randall. Grandchildren surviving are Tina Jackson and her husband Jerry, Tara Sewell and her husband Sidney, Mandy Allen and her husband Cain, and Shane Roberts and Angela Landi; great-grandchildren, Chase Jackson, Cole Jackson, Logan Roberts, McKayla Hall, MacKenzie Hall, Macee Grace Hall, Brooke-Lynn Allen, Ethan Sewell, Ellie Sewell, and Easton Sewell; and step-grandchildren, Josh Allen, Brody Allen, and Cheyenne Allen. His loving care-givers, Mrs. Bobbie Tommie and Ms. Joann Bates also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Alfred Loranza "Jack" Roberts will be conducted Saturday, September 4th at 4:00pm from the Damascus Baptist Church, with Chaplain Dan Autry officiating. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Jerry Jackson, Sidney Sewell, Shane Roberts, Cain Allen, Chase Jackson, and Cole Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the City of Calhoun Fire Department.

The family will receive friends at Damascus Baptist Church Saturday from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 4:00pm.
