Allene Powell

Mrs. Allene Powell, age 79 of Calhoun, GA died Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Gordon Health Care Center following several years of declining health. She was born in Troy, AL on June 26, 1931, daughter of the late Willie Hampton Norris and the late Emma Johnson Norris. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Carroll B. "Pete" Powell, Sr. on November 4, 2010; a brother, Wayne Norris; and two sisters, Edna Mae Jowers and Kathleen Buice.

Prior to her retirement, she had been employed at Gordon Hospital ER, Ramada Inn, Holiday Inn, and as a substitute teacher. She was a member of New Town Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Carroll Ben Powell, Jr. of Enterprise, AL; two daughters, Beverly Grizzle and her husband Sam of Cartersville, GA, and Barbara Gallmon of Resaca, GA; and a sister, Willie Ruth Gibson of Columbus, GA. Grandchildren surviving are Denise Ningen, Shane Grizzle, Tammy Strickland, Jason Gallmon, Lauren Powell, and Alex Powell. Ten great-grandchildren also survive.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Allene Powell will be conducted Saturday, March 26th at 2:00pm from the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Troy, AL with Rev. Lane Towe officiating. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday, March 23rd from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, and Friday March 25th from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Green Hills Funeral Home in Troy, AL.

The family requests flowers are omitted for the Calhoun visitation, and that any floral arrangements are sent to Green Hills Funeral Home in Troy, AL. Donations may also be made in Mrs. Powell's name to the Alzheimer's Associaton of Georgia, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346.
