Alma Martin Carter

Mrs. Alma Martin Carter, age 86 of Calhoun, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Gordon Health Care Center.

She was born on June 6, 1922 in Gordon County, daughter of the late Fain J. Martin and Alma Grace Edwards Martin. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt Carter, to whom she was married for 56 years, by a daughter, Judy Carter, and by her stepmother, Mattie Martin.

Survivors include a son, Ronald (Bear) Carter and his wife Linda of Calhoun; a daughter, Ramona Peterson of Sterling, Illinois; a grandson, Ron Carter and his wife Rachel; four great-grandchildren, Erica Carter, Darby Carter, Jacey Carter and Bram Carter; and two special godchildren, Jason Jones and Jay Jones.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Martin Carter will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00am from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Dr. Ken Conner and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Music will be arranged by Mrs. Rachel Carter, with Mary Holden serving as pianist. Active pallbearers serving will include Jay Jones, Jason Jones, Ron Carter, Keith Henson, and Dennis Adams. Special friends of Mrs. Carter at the Gordon Health Care Center are invited to serve as honorary escorts along with Donna Edwards. Interment will follow the service in the Chandler Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home Monday during the hours of 5:00pm and 8:00pm.
