Althea Catherine Flowers Pate, 90, of Calhoun, died at home on Monday, July 3, 2017, following several months of declining health. She was born in Whitfield County on March 12, 1927; she was the daughter of the late John Shelby and Lulur Thomas Flowers. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of more than sixty years, Van Buren Pate Sr., in 2010; her son, Van Buren Pate Jr.; her son-in-law, Walter Walraven; her brothers, Lester, Henry, Paul, John Will, Vester, Joe Cyphus and Luke Flowers; her sister, Gladys Pate. She was a homemaker who opened her house to many friends and family members. Altheas house was lovingly referred to as Pates Coffee House. She also enjoyed gardening and her pets.
Survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law, Freddy and Marcelle Pate, and Jimmy and Barbara Pate; her daughters, Judy Walraven, and Michelle Pate; her grandchildren and their spouses, Amelia and Seth Gamblin, Amanda Woodruff and Jeremy Cate, Samantha and Bryan Kirby, Zackery Pate and Emily Shotner, Wesley and Christy Brown, Marty and Amber Brown, and Jeremy Pate; her great-grandchildren, Korbin, Hayden, Shelby, Marley, Jonah, Henry, Ryan, Justin, Hope, Cheyenne, Macy, Jaxson, Lillie, and Dawson; her sister-in-law, Willie Mae Babet; lifelong family friends, Kenneth Charvat, Sandra Betts, and Johnny Mack and Emily Thompson; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
The Pate family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 2:00 from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fidelle Cemetery. Rev. Marvin Brock and Rev. Tony Angel will officiate. Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
