Mrs. Alvajean Bradford Smith, age 91 of Calhoun, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010 at her residence.

She was born on July 12, 1918 in Gordon County, daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Lillie Pearl Timms Bradford. Mrs. Smith was a supervisor for the Georgia Department of Labor, retiring in 1981 after 32 years. She was of the Methodist faith.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, James Weyland Smith of the home; nieces, Linda Dempsey and her husband Larry, and Judy Fitch, both of Calhoun, June Logan of Cartersville, Elaine Anderson and her husband Dave of Asheville, NC, Carol Crumbley and her husband Charles of Charlotte, NC, Martha Cass of Athol, Massachusetts, Jan McCormick of Jasper, and Betty Hughes of Detroit, Michigan. Nephews are Charles Bradford and his wife Pat of Calhoun, Bobby Bryant of Fairmount, Billy Bryant and his wife Nekla of Alpharetta, and Jimmy Bradford and his wife Vi of Detroit.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alvajean Bradford Smith will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00am from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Dr. Brian Clark officiating. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Monday during the hours of 6:00pm and 9:00pm. Pallbearers serving will include Larry Dempsey, Charles Bradford, Billy Bryant, Stacey Bradford and Jimmy Bradford. Honorary pallbearers will include her faithful sitters, Ida Ruth Anderson, Doris Daniel, Diane Fleming, Evelyn Gaines and Carolyn McClure, and a special friend, Tessa Brewster. Interment will follow the service in the Chandler Cemetery.
