Andrew Baker

Mr. Andrew J. "A.J." Baker, age 86 of Resaca, passed away at his residence on Monday, April 14, 2008 following several months of declining health. He was born in Gordon County on September 11, 1921, son of the late Andrew J. and Lemer Fowler Baker. Mr. Baker was retired from civil service at Dobbins Air Force Base, and was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a Mason, and a member of Olivia Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Audrey Gravitt Baker on December 12, 2006; a son, Timmy Baker, and a daughter, Paulette Wallace.

Survivors include three sons; Claude Edward Baker and his wife Sheila, Ricky Baker and his wife Tammy, and Gary Baker, all of Resaca; two daughters; Loretta Cornette and her husband Ronnie of Calhoun, and Joan Kaiser of Adairsville; a brother, Barnette Baker of Newnan, and a sister, Azalee Fowler of Calhoun. Twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Andrew J. "A.J." Baker will be conducted Wednesday, April 16 at 11:00am from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Bruce Beach and Rev. Steve Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery with full Masonic rites. Active pallbearers will include Gerald White, Jerry Gravitt, Jeremy Baker, Jimmy White, Bobby Campbell, Michael Baker, and Charles Baker. Honorary pallbearers will include members of Hill City Masonic Lodge #319 F&AM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday after 5:00pm.
