Arthur Dewitt Bowman

Mr. Arthur Dewitt (A.D.) Bowman, Jr., age 90 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at his home. He was born in Gordon County on October 3, 1925, son of the late Arthur Dewitt Bowman, Sr., and the late Mary Elizabeth Greeson Bowman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Bowman Long and David Long; and a great-grandchild, Carson Sampson.

Mr. Bowman was a veteran, serving his country in the US Navy in Japan. He was employed at Lockheed for 18 years before becoming a full-time farmer. He was a charter member of Philadelphia Baptist Church, serving as Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a long-time Gideon and served as a board member of the Georgia Farm Bureau.

He leaves behind his wife of 69 years, Beatrice Jane Wright Bowman; his children, Rev. Gary Bowman and his wife Margaret, Joel Bowman and his wife Vicki, and Donald Bowman and his wife Jane, all of Calhoun; grandchildren, Greg and Tonya Bowman, Allison Bowman, Hope and John Sampson, Joy and Michael Renfro, Jordan and Alison Bowman, Kim and Todd Kramer, Katrina and Adam Roland, Levi and Kim Bowman, and Jesse and Kayla Bowman; and great-grandchildren, Kendall and Lindsay Bowman, Carter and Carden Sampson, Jack and Henry Renfro, Aiden Roland, Kate Kramer, and Lexi Beth and Libby Bowman. A sister-in-law, Betty Knight; a brother-in-law, Hoyle Wright; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Services to honor the life of Mr. Arthur Dewitt (A.D.) Bowman, Jr., will be held Thursday, October 29th at 11:00 AM from Philadelphia Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim McCulley and Rev. Gary Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in Blackwood Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers, and will include Donald, Levi, Jesse, Joel, Jordan, Gary, Greg, John, Todd, Adam, and Michael.

The Bowman family will receive friends at Philadelphia Baptist Church, 358 Hensley Road, Calhoun, on Wednesday, October 28th, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
