Mr. Atnas Lay Pate, age 86 of Calhoun, died Friday, February 18, 2011 at Redmond Regional Medical Center following several weeks of declining health. He was born in Murray County on June 8, 1924, son of the late William Colquitt Pate and Annie Mae Baker Pate. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mozell Pulliam Pate; four brothers, Van Pate, Nollie Pate, Leonard Pate, and Royal Pate; and a sister, Denalay Pate.
Mr. Pate was a deacon and member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in the Sonoraville community for 51 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Mathis and her husband Curtis, and Linda Stanley, both of Calhoun; a sister, Willie Mae Babbet of Alpharetta; grandchildren, Chad Mathis, Claude Thomas Stanley, Jr., and Ralph Atnas Stanley; and great-grandchildren, Grace Mathis, Halie Mathis, Nena Stanley, Kaitlyn Stanley, and Bradley Atnas Stanley. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Atnas Lay Pate will be conducted Monday, February 21st at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Jason Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Gordon Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will include Chad Mathis, Thurman Pate, Freddy Pate, Jimmy Pate, Billy Kay, and Claude Thomas Stanley, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bethlehem Baptist Church Bible Class.
The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Sunday from 4:00pm until 9:00pm.
