Mr. Aubrey Howren, age 70 of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Gordon Hospital. He was born in Bartow County on May 3, 1941, son of the late F. Neal Howren and the late Alma Kelly Howren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Ray Howren; and a sister, Betty Amos.
Mr. Howren was a veteran, proudly serving his country in the US Army and Army National Guard for 26 years. He served in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and received many decorations and citations, including the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medalist Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medalist Award, and Expert badge (Rifle).
He had retired from Mannington Mills, and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Hatfield Howren; four sons, Barry Howren of Cartersville, Brian Howren of Chatsworth, Jimmy Brown and his wife Sandra of Calhoun, and Billy Grant and his wife Angie of Chatsworth; Four daughters, Lisa Louise Wyatt and her husband Dennis of Cartersville, Angie Joy Wood and her husband Paul of Auburn, GA, Kelly Robertson of Cartersville, and Rhonda Thomas of Calhoun; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Bertie Howren of Cartersville; and four sisters, Virginia Hobgood and her husband Royce of Fairmount, and Margaret Alexander, Faye Ghee, and Wanda Hornbuckle and her husband Dale, all of Cartersville. Grandchildren surviving are Melissa Hensley, Dennis Wyatt, Nick Howren, Megan Howren, Brandon Wood, Brett Wood, Dustin Howren, Drew Howren, Ryan Robertson, Elizabeth Robertson, Ricky Thomas, Brittany Thomas, Jessica Brown, Dusty Causby, Drew Grant, Chandler Bryce Jackson, Timothy Van Dyke, Jessica Van Dyke, Draik Grant, and Specialist Richard Bodiford. Eleven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and special adopted grandchildren, Austin Timms and Ansley Timms also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Aubrey Howren will be held Friday, December 23rd at 11:00am from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. David Nix officiating. Interment will follow in the Chandler Cemetery will military honors. Active pallbearers will include Drew Howren, Drew Grant, Ryan Robertson, Timothy Van Dyke, Brett Wood, Tim Smith, and Ricky Thomas.
The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Thursday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
