Obituary

Barbara J. Pierce Cannon, 73, of Calhoun died at Advent Health Gordon on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, following several months of declining health. She was born in Gordon County on October 21, 1945, daughter of the late Grady Lee and Ora Mae Kinsey Pierce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Melford Cannon; her son, Tracy, in 1990; her brothers and sister-in-law, Ralph and Cathy Pierce, and Dennis Pierce; and her sister, Joann Pierce.
Barbara enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, and gardening. She loved spending time with her family. She was a member of Moss Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Russell Cannon, Michael Cannon, Stephen Cannon, and Brian Cannon; her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Douglas Frain; her grandchildren, Paige Frain, Hope Frain, Chrissy Cannon, and Brittany and Melissa Cannon; her great-grandchildren, Kada and Kirsten, and Zaiden and Zelda; her brother and sisters-in-law, Albert and Dawn Pierce, and Barbara Pierce; and her sisters and brother-in-law, Betty and Arnold Sertain, Lavern Boudreaux and Jon Cates, Claudine Brock, and Retha Burns.
The Cannon family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at noon from Moss Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Chandler Cemetery. Rev. Calvin Anderson will officiate. Mrs. Cannon's body will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service at noon. Pallbearers serving will include Steve Rumsey, Joey McCloud, Shane Pierce, Carol Jones, Ben Jones, and Bruce Higgins. Honorary pallbearers are Jon Cates and Jerry Jones.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home of Calhoun.
