Barbara James Avery

Mrs. Barbara James Avery, 80 of Calhoun, died Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Gordon Hospital. She was born in Gordon County on June 30, 1935, daughter of the late Webb and Pauline Bailey Stamey James. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Lee Avery; a daughter, Judy Evans; brothers and sisters, Sonny James, Johnny James, Annette Parker, and Jackie Kalevas; and a son-in-law, Hubert Cooper.

Mrs. Avery had been employed with GA Textile as a designer. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

She leaves behind her sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Susan Sparks, and Larry and Sandra Avery, all of Calhoun; daughters and son-in-law, Debra Dodd, Pat Cooper, and Nicki and Chuck Faulkner, all of Calhoun; grandchildren, Drew Sparks, Missy Duckett and her husband Colby, Abby Fowler and her husband Chance, Steve Brock, and Candy Brock; and great-grandchildren, Hunter Brock, Brooks and Brady Brock, and Rawling Duckett.

Services to honor the life of Mrs. Barbara James Avery will be held Tuesday, November 24th at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Donnie Hudgens officiating. Interment will follow at Chandler Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Derek Towe, Stacy James, Chance Fowler, Drew Sparks, Steve Brock, Jimbo Chitwood, and Colby Duckett. Honorary pallbearers are the staff and volunteers of Providence Ministries.

The Avery family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, November 23rd from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
