Mrs. Barbara Underwood Greeson, 87, of Calhoun, passed on to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 15, 2025. Surrounded by her family, she finally reached the end of a long and difficult road of declining health over the last 15 years. Barbara was born in Calhoun, Ga. on February 15, 1938, to the late Ishmael Ford Underwood and Denah Lewis Underwood. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Robert Gene Greeson in 2021, after 63 years of marriage, and by a sister-in- law; Linda Mullinax Underwood. Barbara was retired as a Bookkeeper from Modern Fibers, a job that she left only to spend more time with her family. She was an unashamed Christian as a faithful member of Calhoun First United Methodist Church.
Barbara was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was quick to point out the expected goal of any of her family’s endeavors and even quicker to provide love and approval at the outcome, even if it should fall short of expectations.
She could be counted on to give you her opinion, when asked. Those opinions were always based on pure love and her undeniable faith that victory was imminent in any of our enterprises. Those that may have doubted her love and belief in familial matters, were confronted by a fierce and unapologetic defense of them. Family came first, and to contend otherwise was a waste of time.
Barbara is survived by her children and their spouses; Judy (David) Howerton, Jeff (Linda) Greeson, her siblings and their spouses; brother, Norman (Harrilee) Underwood, and sister, Faye (Tommy) Honeycutt. Barbara is also survived by her grandchildren: Tabb (Kristina) Fowler, Tessa (Brandon) Price, Justin (Annalyse) Howerton, Aimee (Dylan) Nicholas, Cole Greeson and Olivia Greeson. Great grandchildren are; Addilyn Hunt, Carslyn Hunt, Archer Fowler, Atlas Fowler, Clarke Nicholas, Roland Howerton, and Kylee Price. Nieces and Nephews also survive.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Homespun Hospice, especially David, Shanna, and Lisa, for their exceptional care and support during this challenging time. Special thanks to Angel Knowles Kirkland, Virginia and Stacy Hensley, Teresa Davis Carter, and the staff at Morning Pointe, for their support through this long Dementia journey.
Per Barbara’s wishes, a family only committal service will be held briefly and immediately prior to the graveside services, at a time and date to be provided later. Burial will be in Chandler cemetery, with pall bearers serving; Cole Greeson, Tabb Fowler, Justin Howerton, Brandon Price, Jason Davis, Dylan Nicholas. Graveside services to be provided by Reverend Stacy Hensley. The family asks that no flowers be sent.
The Brannon family and staff are honored to serve the family of Barbara Underwood Greeson.
