Mrs. Betty Bearden Garrett, age 74 of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009 at her residence following several months of declining health. She was born Gordon County on May 10, 1935, daughter of the late Floyd Bearden and the late Artie Bearden.

Mrs. Garrett was retired from Joe's Pool Service, and was a member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Rev. Joe Garrett; a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Mike McDaniel, all of Calhoun; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Lamar and Ruenette Bearden of Calhoun, Ray and Sue Bearden of Kingston, Tennessee, Donald and Carol Bearden of Ringgold, and Jerry and Nancy Bearden of Calhoun; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kay and Roy Rutledge, and Rita and Roy McBrayer, all of Calhoun. Two grandchildren, Leah and Tony Petty, and Jared and Brandy Smith, all of Calhoun; three great-great grandchildren, Michala and Hunter Petty, and Ivy Smith; three step-grandsons, Jeffrey McDaniel of Knoxville, Tennessee, Brandon McDaniel of Calhoun, and Cory McDaniel of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; and a step-great grandson, Maclane McDaniel also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Bearden Garrett will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00am from the Philadelphia Baptist Church, with Rev. Lamar Bearden, Rev. Tim McCulley, and Rev. Ray Bearden officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Tony Gentry, Kevin Thomas, Jonathan Kirkpatrick, Randy Sumner, Stacy Hughey, and Scott Clements. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the church Wednesday at 10:15am.

The family will receive friends at the Philadelphia Baptist Church on Tuesday from 3:00pm until 9:00pm. Mrs. Garrett will lie in state at the church Wednesday from 10:00am until the funeral hour.
