Betty Dover Gowens

Mrs. Betty Gowens, age 89 of Lowell, NC, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at the Brian Center of Gastonia, Gastonia NC. She was born on June 14, 1917 in Walker County, GA, daughter of the late Alf and Marie Pickett Dover. She was a lifelong Baptist and Church of God, and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Diane Gowens, and by two sisters, Lillian and Estelle.

Survivors include her husband, John C. "J.C" Gowens of the home; a son, John J. Gowens of Fort Lauderdale, FL; four daughters, Linda G. Heffner and her husband Vernon of Mt. Holly, NC, Joan G. Brown and her husband Boyce of Boone, NC, Betty Jean Riley and her husband Reid of Jefferson, AR, and Janice Gowens of Charlotte, NC; and a sister, Christine Douglas of Odessa, TX. Six grandchildren, one step-grandchild, four great-grandchildren, and one step great-grandchild also survive.

Graveside services for Mrs. Betty Gowens will be conducted at 11:00am Saturday, April 21, at Chandler Cemetery, with Rev. Gay Grizzle officiating. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00am until the funeral hour.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28053.
