Mrs. Betty Jean Black McBee, age 75 of the Red Bud Community, Calhoun, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Gordon Hospital following several years declining health. She was born in Oakman, GA on June 15, 1938, daughter of the late Paul and Leola Holbert Black. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Kinzel Black, Porter Black, Haywood Black, Billy Black, and Chick Black; and sisters, Edgel Howell, Lois Black, and Dorothy Hamby.
Mrs. McBee loved the Lord, and enjoyed bluegrass and gospel music. She was employed with the Gordon County School System for 30 years at the Red Bud lunchroom and at Gordon Central High School, and then worked at several convenience stores around the county until 2006, always loving the people. She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church.
She leaves behind a son, Ricky McBee and his wife Nicki; a daughter, Sheila McBee, both of Calhoun; grandchildren, Kurt McBee of Rome, and Zack, Brandon, and Kayla McBee, all of Calhoun; and two great-grandchildren, Chloe McBee and Ryder McBee.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Betty Jean Black McBee will be held Thursday, January 16th at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will include Kurt McBee, Zack McBee, Brandon McBee, Alvin Johnson, Steve Johnson and Steve Black.
The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday, January 15th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
