Betty Lou (French) Lewis

April 8, 1935 — September 9, 2024

Betty Lou Lewis, born on April 8, 1935, in Calhoun, GA, peacefully passed away at Morning Pointe Assisted Living Home on Monday, September 9, 2024. Betty was a cherished wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose legacy of love and care left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

Betty was the devoted spouse of Charles L. Lewis, who preceded her in death in 2010 after 57 years of marriage. She was the loving daughter of Ben and Sally French and the sister of Lillie Belle Fuller, all of whom have also passed away.

Betty’s life was filled with the love of her children: Donna Fox, Sue Gibson (David), Debra Phillips (Mitch), Greg Lewis (Lori), and Vanessa Morrison (Daniel). She took great pride in her grandchildren—Kelly Mashburn, Scotty Mashburn (Lori), Amy Phillips, Katie Farley (Michael), Stephanie Jeffords (Jaren), and Tripp Morrison (Julia)—and her great-grandchildren: Hunter & Lydia Hartsfield, Kade Mashburn, John Michael & Jake Farley, Ember & Savanna Mashburn, Anna, Ava, & Abby Jeffords, and McClain Morrison, who brought her immense joy.

Betty is survived by her two sisters-in-law, Louise Lewis and Betty Whitfield.

A long-time member of Bethesda Baptist Church, Betty was affectionately known as "Mama Lewis" throughout the Red Bud community. She earned this endearing nickname through her dedicated role as a beloved babysitter and caregiver, often having a house full of children whom she helped nurture and raise. Her nurturing spirit and boundless generosity left a profound impact on many families in the area.

Betty’s love for her family was steadfast and enduring. She cherished every moment with her children and grandchildren. In her later years, she was surrounded by the compassionate care of the staff at Morning Pointe Assisted Living, who became like family to her. Her family is deeply grateful for their support and care, and they wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to Homespun Hospice for their exceptional care in her final weeks.

The family finds solace in the belief that Betty is now reunited with her loved ones, especially her dear husband, Charles. They take comfort in her relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ, and the promise of her presence with Him today. They hold fast to the hope that they will one day be reunited with her in Heaven.

A service to celebrate her life will be conducted on Friday, September 13th, 2024, at 2:00 pm from Sugar Valley Baptist Church, with Rev. Wesley Hunt and Rev. Mitch Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Pallbearers serving will include her grandsons, Kelly Mashburn, Scotty Mashburn, Tripp Morrison, Kaden Mashburn, Hunter Hartsfield, Jaren Jeffords, Michael Farley, John Michael Farley, and Jake Farley. Honorary pallbearers serving will include Phil French, Kent French, Craig French, Stuart French, Dwight Fuller, and Wayne Harper.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 13th, between 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm at Sugar Valley Baptist Church.

The family asks that flowers be omitted and contributions be made in Betty Lou's memory to the Children's Ministry at Bethesda Baptist Church and Sugar Valley Baptist Church. During her visitation, a basket will be in the front of the church for cards and contributions to both churches.

Betty Lou Lewis will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing her. Her memory will forever be a guiding light of love, grace, and unwavering faith.

The Brannon family and staff are honored to serve the family of Betty Lou Lewis.
