Mrs. Betty Sue Dean, age 58, of Resaca, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Hamilton Medical Center following several months of declining health. She was born in Whitfield County on January 25, 1949, daughter of the late Leon and Edith Burns Muse. Mrs. Dean was employed by the Kittrich Corporation, and was a member of the Way of the Cross Church.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gary Muse and Arthur Muse.

Survivors include her husband of twenty five years, Jimmy Dean; three sons, John Underwood and his wife Becky of Resaca, Michael Leon Patton of Resaca, and Steven Lee Dean of Roanoke, Alabama; two daughters, Tonya Nickole Dean and her husband Ryan of Resaca, and Melissa Brannon and her husband Jason of Calhoun; two brothers, Hershel Muse of Resaca, and Kenneth Muse of Dalton; five sisters, Helen Massingill of Sugar Valley, Caroline Parker of Calhoun, Gail Roden of Ranger, Barbara Kennedy of Resaca, and Frances Mullins of Murray County. Seventeen grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Sue Dean will be conducted Friday, September 28, at 2:00pm from the Way of the Cross Church, with Rev. Donnie Hays and Rev. James Tinch officiating. Interment will follow in the Lovejoy Cemetery in Sugar Valley. Music will be arranged by Rhonda Burns. Active pallbearers will include Greg Newberry, Steve Massingill, Tony Massingill, Chris Burchfield, Keith Parker, and Jermey Massingill. Honorary pallbearers will include Chris Massingill and Brandon Coats. Mrs. Dean's body will remain at the home of her sister, Helen and Marvin Massingill, at 4945 Sugar Valley Road, where the family will receive friends beginning Wednesday at 6:00pm until the funeral hour.
