Mr. Billy Gene Barnette, 89, of Calhoun, died Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Barnette was born in Calhoun, Georgia, on January 12, 1935, the son of the late Guss Nunally Barnette Sr. and Mable Fite Barnette. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Russell Barnette; daughter-in-law, Teena Barnette; five sisters, Elizabeth Dodd, Jonnie Burnette, Lucy Barnette, Swea Barnette, and Bettye Barnette; three brothers, Rev. Fite Barnette, Guss Nunally Barnette Jr., and Paul Edwin Barnette.
He was a Calhoun High School graduate; before retirement, he was employed by Bryan Foods and Walmart and was a charter member of Belmont Baptist Church.
Survivors include his faithful and loving wife, Nan Hayes Barnette, to whom he was married for 64 ½ years; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Melissa Barnette and Todd Barnette; granddaughter Amy Barnette; Daughter-in-law, Pam Barnette Tippens; grandchildren, Andy (Holly) Barnette, Adam Barnette, Josh (Joanna) Barnette, April (Santino) Butler, Abby (Chantel) Barnette; great-grandchildren, Arielle Evans, Langston Butler, Quinton Butler, Kingston Butler, Joshua Barnette, Kaitlynn Barnette, Remmi Barnette, Luke Barnette, Blakely Barnette, Baylor Barnette, Landon Sykes, Amelia Sykes, Sailor VanDyke; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 11, 2024, at 2:00 PM from Belmont Baptist Church, with Rev. Jim Sellers, Rev. Stacy Hensley, and Andy Barnette officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot of Wesley Chapel Cemetery, with Rev. Steve McDougle officiating at the graveside. Burt Jeffords, Treva Sellers, and Linda Walter will arrange the music. Pallbearers serving will include Adam Barnette, Santino Butler, Josh Burnette, Stuart York, Langston Butler, and Tony Pack. Quinton Butler, Kingston Butler, Joshua Barnette, and Zane McFarland will be honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 10th, at Belmont Baptist Church from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
The family asks that instead of flowers, donations can be made in Billy’s memory to Good Samaritan Ministries of Gordon County, 373 Morrow Road SE, Calhoun, Georgia 30701.
The family would like to thank Homespun Hospice for the compassionate care given by Jerri McDougle, Holly Wesson, Lisa Beasley, Alyssa Whitfield, Michelle Coleman, Chelsea Rakestraw, and Rev. Stacy Hensley.
