Mr. Bobby Ray Hicks, age 76 of Calhoun, GA died Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Evergreen Health Care Center following an extended illness.
He was born on February 24, 1935 in Polk County, TN, son of the late Chester Joseph Hicks and May Bell Lawson Hicks. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Angelle Gowens Hicks in June 2008; a sister, Joyce Hicks Holbert; and brothers, Swan Hicks, O'Neal Hicks, Billy Hicks and Marshall Hicks.
Mr. Hicks served his country in the United States Air Force, and retired as a supervisor in the textile industry.
Survivors include two sons, John Hicks and his wife Mary of Adairsville, and Tommy Hicks of Calhoun; four daughters, Robbie Hicks of Canada, Rhonda Lynne Childers and her husband Tim of Fairmount, Donna Barnes and Donald Pass of Calhoun, and Arwanna Clayton and her husband Paul of Rome; a sister, Linda Parker and her husband Kenneth of Dalton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nadine Hicks, Barbara Hicks, Marvis and Boyd Blalock, and Ed Gowens, all of Calhoun, Harvey and Jean Gowens of Adairsville, and Darlene and David Hicks of Dalton. Grandchildren surviving are Rev. Brandon and Kim Patterson, Marisa and Kyle Young, Kris and Emily Hicks, Corey Childers, Ashlee Thomas, Taylor Hicks, Daniel Bailey, Sandy Bailey, Mariah Bailey, Jeremy Barnes, and Felicia Barnes. Seventeen great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Ray Hicks will be conducted Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Brandon Patterson officiating. Music will be arranged by Corey Childers. Active pallbearers will include Sandy Bailey, Daniel Bailey, Kris Hicks, Corey Childers, Kyle Young and Jeremy Barnes. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Cunningham, Boyd Blalock, Allen Blaylock, Taylor Hicks, Mason Patterson, David Hicks, Harvey Gowens and Ed Gowens. Interment will follow in the Chandler Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
