Boyd Highfield

January 26, 1942 — July 8, 2024

Boyd Robert Highfield, 82, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024, at The Fountains in Calhoun, Georgia, after two years of declining health.

Boyd was born in Rome, Georgia, on January. 26, 1942, the son of the late Hance and Lucille Highfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Pressley, and brother-in-law, Dale Brown.

Boyd went to work at a young age and worked in the textile and carpet industry for over 30 years. When he retired, he raised and sold cattle and loved nothing more than his time in the tractor cutting hay.

Boyd was an avid golfer and played in countless tournaments. He loved to travel and went on many trips with the Red Carpet Cattlemen's Association, Buddy and Martha Davis Tours, and the North Georgia Gadabouts. Boyd loved spending time at his home away from home on the Hiawassee River with good friends and family. Boyd attended Resaca Baptist Church for many years, where he served as a deacon, but moved his membership to Calhoun First Baptist to attend with his grandchildren when they moved back to Calhoun. Boyd and his wife were members of the Faithseekers Class at First Baptist until his health declined. Boyd was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He loved nothing more than time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were his pride and joy.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Brown Highfield, to whom he was married for 63 years; his daughters, Melissa Long (Paul) and Meredith Banta; grandchildren, Morgan Bradley (Chase), Mackenzie Banta, and Tyler Banta; great-grandchildren, Luke, Lawson, and Bo Bradley; sister, Sally Burgess; nieces and nephews, Nancy Stanfield Dyer, Theresa Biles (Donnie), Annalisa Headrick (Tim), Danny Burgess, Edward Burgess, Patricia Ann Pressley, Walter Pressley, Michelle Childress (Justin), and Anna Brown. He also had several great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 2:00 PM from Calhoun First Baptist Church, with Dr. John Barber and Eddie Brannon officiating. Rev. Harold Blackstock will have the committal prayer. Lance Cole will be in charge of the music. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include Tyler Banta, Chase Bradley, Jerry Edwards, Tim Edwards, Justin Childress, Christopher Mulkey, and Todd Rutledge.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Calhoun First Baptist Church before the service.

The family would like to thank The Fountains, Homespun Hospice, and his caregivers for the exceptional care Boyd received.

The Brannon family and staff are honored to serve the family of Boyd Robert Highfield.
