Aaron Brady Champion, of Fairmount, passed away Wednesday, December 30,, 2015. He spent most of his life in and around Fairmount. Brady married Christine Rogers in 1953, after both had graduated from Fairmount High School. They were married for 59 years before her death in 2012.
Brady was an Army veteran; he was mainly posted in Texarkana, Texas. After returning to Fairmount, most of his life was devoted to farming. He was an active member of the Red Carpet Cattleman's Association for many years. Brady was recognized with several awards for his successfulness as a farmer. One year, he was named as Farmer of the Year by the Georgia Farm Bureau.
Brady was the son of the late Lela Pettit Champion and the late Nathaniel R. Champion Sr. He was born July 28, 1931. Brady was preceded in death by his sisters, Opal Champion Shirley and her husband Bursey F. Shirley, and Ruby Jo Champion Cooley and her husband Wm. Stacy Cooley; his brother-in-law James A. Lacey; and his brother, Nathaniel R. Champion Jr.
He is survived by one sister, Aimee Champion Lacey; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; his brothers-in-law, Larry Rogers and wife Sandra, and Ronnie Rogers and wife Brenda; several cousins, especially Jeff and Rebecca Champion, who were business partners; his special friend, Tracy Gibson, of St. Marks, FL.
Funeral services for Aaron Brady Champion will be held Saturday, January 2nd at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Dr. Larry Hibberts officiating. Music will be arranged by Rebecca Champion. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Tyler Richardson, Ryan Richardson, Nat Ackerman, Bo Ackerman, Rodney Rogers, and Nick Thurman. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Dyer, Ronnie Rogers, Larry Rogers, and Phillip Gibson.
The Champion family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, January 1st from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
