Brent Brannon, 43, of the Newtown Community, died on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 following a sudden illness. Brent was born in Rome, Georgia on March 19, 1973; he was the son of Max Brannon and the late Gentle Lee Pettett Brannon. Brent attended Red Bud Schools, and was a member of the graduating class of 1991. He accepted a baseball scholarship to Central Kansas Community College where he excelled as an outfielder. He returned home to Georgia and graduated from Shorter College with a degree in education. He began his teaching career at Calhoun High School where he was an assistant basketball coach, and an assistant coach for the JV football team, the baseball team, and the golf team. He accepted a job with Truett-McConnell college in Cleveland, Georgia and served there as an assistant coach. Brent decided to return to Calhoun where he served as the business manager for the familys florist and helped care for his parents. Brent loved to follow local high school sports and college basketball; the Kansas Jayhawks was his favorite team. He enjoyed travelling with David Stokes to offer color commentary for live broadcasts of basketball and baseball games. Brent was an avid wrestling fan; he was the founder of the C-Town Posse Wrestling Group. Prior to his parents declining health, Brent was an avid fisherman. Brent loved his Lord, and shared with everyone what God had done for him. He was an active member of New Town Baptist Church.
Brent is survived by his father, Max Brannon; his brothers and sister-in-law, Eddie and Lynn Brannon, and Brian Brannon; his nieces and nephews, Heather Brannon Hamilton and her husband, William, Matt Brannon, Anna Brannon, Jenna Brannon, and McKenna Brannon; his great nephew, Brooks Brannon; his great-nieces, Carson Hamilton and Libby Brannon; other relatives and many good friends.
The Brannon family will receive friends on Friday, January 20, 2017 from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m. at New Town Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. from New Town Baptist Church. Rev. Walter Hare will officiate with eulogies by Jason Hawkins and Ray Tucker Sr. Pallbearers are Jeff "Whitey" Davis, Russell Bryant, B.J. Meadows, Jason Hawkins, Brett Cochran, Barry Blevins, Ray Tucker Sr., David Stokes, and Chip Henderson.
The family suggests that flowers be omitted and memorials in Brents memory be made to The Gordon County Recreation Department, 7494 Fairmount Hwy SE, Calhoun, GA 30701, or the Calhoun Recreation Department, 601 S River St, Calhoun, GA 30701.
