Mr. Bud Gravitte, age 68 of Roland Hayes Parkway, Calhoun, died Saturday evening, November 24, 2007 at his residence following six months of declining health. Mr. Gravitte was born on July 4th, 1939 in Bartow County, Georgia, son of the late Arthur and Irene McDaniel Gravitte. He was a friend to many. He loved his God; his family and his work. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church. He owned and operated Bud's Towing Service for 18 years and had the very popular large wrecker he named the "Smurf". He was known as "Papa Smurf" on his CB Radio. He loved fishing in his ponds, working on his farm, and having coffee in the morning with his coffee drinking buddies. Mr. Gravitte is preceded in death by his father Arthur Gravitte and his mother Irene McDaniel Jenkins; a son, Ralph Jerry Gravitte Jr.; a brother, Gail Wayne Weld and by uncles, Ralph McDaniel, Woodrow McDaniel and D.O. McDaniel; and an aunt, Ruby McDaniel. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ann Halterman Gravitte, to whom he was married for 23 years; three sons, Jerry Gravitte and his wife Lannie of Resaca, GA., Kenny Gravitte and a special friend Cindy of Calhoun, GA., and Keith Gravitte of Calhoun; one stepson, Jimmy Huff and his wife Chris of Full Creek, Wisconsin; two daughters, Lisa Hollomon and her husband Brian of Calhoun, and Tammy Silvers of Sugar Valley, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law; Charles Weld and his wife Essie, Noel Weld and his wife Arlaine, and Kenneth Weld and his wife Rosie, all of Washington; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Don Halterman and his wife Mary Lou, Buzz Halterman and his wife Diane, and Phyllis Halterman, all of Stanley, Wisconsin; six sisters, Penny Wanda Boesman of Washington State, Thelma Jean Westaby and her husband Kenny of Wisconsin, Betty Sue Weld of Texas, and Patricia June Weld, Faye Marie Weld and Debra Weld of Washington State. Sixteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Bud Gravitte will be held Wednesday, November 28th at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. William Roberts and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in Scott Cemetery near Plainville. Pallbearers serving include Sheriff Jerry Davis, Philip McDaniel, James Hopper, Vick Caudle, Sam Momon and Neal Russell. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home after 6:00 PM.
