Bud Raines

Bud Raines, 89, of Sugar Valley died at his home on Thursday, October 27, 2016 following several years of declining health. Bud was born in Fulton County on March 6, 1927; he was the son of the late Lawrence and Eliza Galloway Raines. Along with his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Wincie Stanley Raines, in 2015; his daughter, Shelia West; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Raines, daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Raines, son-in-laws, Mitchell Greeson and James Morris. his brothers, Russell Raines, Bill Raines, Pete Raines, and Frank Raines; his sisters, Fannie Harmon and Elizabeth Taylor. He was a member of The Church of God and prior to his retirement, he was a contract pulp wood cutter for Bowater and a poultry farmer, but one of the thing he really enjoyed was growing and showing off his prized tomatoes.
Survivors include his son, David Raines; his daughters and sons-in-law, Janie Morris-Dunman and her husband, Gene, Bobbie Johns and her husband Max, Karen Greeson, and Leslie Wilbanks and her husband Michael; his brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Luther and Betty Raines; his sisters, Berta Ann McKeehan and Nora Pickens; his grandchildren, Becky Quinn, Jim Morris, Josh Raines, Beth Petty, Jared Raines, Stewart West, Hunter Wilbanks, Garrett Wilbanks, and Dustin Wilbanks; his great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Quinn, Cameron Quinn, Jeremiah Petty, Matthew Petty, Emily Morris, Jake Raines, Joey Raines, and August Raines; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. The family would like to thank his caregiver, Shelia Brooks and Homestead Hospice for their support and care.
The Raines family will receive friends at Sugar Valley Church of God on Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from Sugar Valley Church of God. Burial will follow at Sugar Valley Church of God Cemetery. Pastor Dwaine Shadix will officiate. Music will be arranged by Faye Pierce Bentley. Buds grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Lonnie Walker, Wayne Aldridge, Tom Pickle, Jim Roberts, Blake Holbert, Billy West, Bud West, Richard Pickens, Tom Dooley, Jeff Young, Kevin Holsomback, Jack McGaskey, Ricky Smith, and Jim Reece.
