Mr. Bradwell Howard "Buddy" Floyd, age 89, a well known resident of the Plainville community died Wednesday July 11, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Floyd was born on September 18, 1922 in Plainville, son of the late Samuel Howard Floyd and Alma Boswell Floyd. Buddy was very active in his community, having served as Plainville's mayor and first Fire Chief. After being honorably discharged after WWII from the United States Army, he returned to Plainville where he owned and operated Country Grocery Store. Mr. Floyd served on the board of directors of Gordon County Department of Family and Children Services, Past Commander of the Paul Gwin Post 47 of The American Legion, member of the Plainville Masonic Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons for 66 years, and past president of the Plainville Ruritan Club. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II and seeing action in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. Prior to his retirement he was employed by the United States Postal Service as Postmaster in Plainville for 21 years. Mr. Floyd is survived by his wife, Maxine Hunt Floyd, to whom he was married for 65 years; a daughter, Sherry Floyd Lusk of Plainville; a son, Stephen Floyd and his wife Deborah of Eufaula, AL; grandchildren, Zachary Lusk, Brad Long, Stacy Floyd, Deni Pate, Hannah Pelfrey, Dee Edwards, Michelle Jeffords, Joseph Roach and Tabitha Lusk; great-grandchildren, Braxton Lusk, Macy Lusk, Drew Pate, Will Pate, Erica Pelfrey, Ethan Edwards, Logan Jeffords and Jacey Johnson; a nephew, Victor Floyd of San Francisco, CA; and other relatives. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Saturday, July 14th beginning at 10:00 AM. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 12:00 noon, with Rev. Michael Hunt and Victor Floyd officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot at Salmon Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers serving include Bradley Long, Joel Ostuw, Benji Miller, Jeff Grisham, Lynn Grisham, and Ray Black. These gentlemen are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 11:30 AM Saturday. Honorary pallbearers include Melba Lynn Nicholson, Christa Nicholson, Robyn Nicholson, Louise Cowart, Jimmy and Kathy Grisham, Ms. Audry Long, Betty Byerly, Faye, Polly and Mark Autry.
