Mr. Carlton Robert Hunter, age 82 of Calhoun, died Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 at Gordon Hospital.

He was born on December 29th, 1926 in Alabama, son of the late George Sidney Hunter and Mattie England Hunter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Louise Carter Hunter.

Mr. Hunter was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a Medical Aidman, and received the World War II Victory Medal and the Occupational Medal in Germany. He was of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn Bennett and her husband Trammell of Plainville, Shirley Powell and her husband Ricky of Calhoun, Sherrie Elaine Wyman of New York, and Rachel Leary and her husband Dennis of Adairsville; and four sons, Ronnie Hunter and his wife Linda, Johnny Hunter, Dwight Hunter and Robert Hunter, all of Calhoun. Twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Carlton Robert Hunter will be conducted Thursday, December 3rd at 1:00pm from the Big Springs Baptist Church, with Rev. Fred McCoy officiating. Active pallbearers serving will include James Bailey, Mitchell Black, Timmy Black, Anthony Pack, Justin Hunter and Robbie Hunter. Honorary pallbearers are James Breeding, Gerardo Reyes, Virgil Pierce and Jessie Breeding. Interment will follow the service in the Gordon Memorial Gardens with military honors.

The family will receive friends at the Big Springs Baptist Church Wednesday from 4:30pm until 9:00pm.
