Charles E. Gillespie

Mr. Charles E. Gillespie, age 77 of Calhoun, passed away, Thursday, August 27, 2009 at the U.S. Soldier's Home in Washington, DC.

Mr. Gillespie was born on August 26, 1932 in Gordon County, son of the late Robert J. and Edith Isham Gillespie. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vada Gillespie, and a brother, Robert Gillespie. During his lifetime, he served his country with the United States Air Force, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the River View Baptist Church..

Mr. Gillespie is survived by a daughter, Hieu Kennedy and her husband Mitchell of Knoxville, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Scott Bishop and Olinka Jefferson, both of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Jacob Bishop, Annalise Bishop, Joel Bishop and Karis Jefferson; and a brother, Billy Gillespie of Calhoun. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services for Mr. Charles E. Gillespie will be conducted Monday at 11:00am from the West Union Baptist Church Cemetery, with Dale Byars officiating.
