Charles Lewis

Mr. Charles Lewis, age 80 of the Red Bud Community, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at his residence following several years of declining health. He was a native of Gordon County, son of the late Fain and Annie Moss Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Lewis, Herman Lewis, and Gene Lewis; and three sisters, Mildred Strickland, Denah Underwood, and Vera Stewart.

During his lifetime, Mr. Lewis served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and retired from Lockheed Aircraft as an Aircraft Machinist with 41 years of service. He loved his family and especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Bethesda Baptist Church in Red Bud.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Lou French Lewis; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Lori Lewis of Calhoun; four daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Randall Fox of Calhoun, Sue and David Gibson of Ranger, Debra and Mitch Phillips of Calhoun, and Vanessa and Daniel Morrison of Calhoun; three brothers, Troy Lewis, Max Lewis, and Vernon Lewis, all of Calhoun; and three sisters, Vonnie Truitt of Toledo, Ohio, Irene Mooneyham of Marietta, and Betty Whitfield of Calhoun. Other survivors include grandchildren, Kelly and Karin Mashburn, Scotty and Lori Mashburn, Dena and Dale Pullen, Carla Fox, Stephanie Gibson, Amy and Walt Hartsfield, Katie and Michael Farley, and Tripp Morrison; great-grandchildren, Kade Mashburn, Stella Chumney, Bailee, Marlee, and Gunnar Pullen, and Hunter and Lydia Hartsfield; two sisters-in-law, Simmie Bell Lewis and Lillie Fuller; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Lewis will be conducted Friday, May 21st at 4:00pm from the Bethesda Baptist Church, with Rev. Wesley Hunt and Rev. Mitch Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Park, with Rev. Len Pirkle conducting the committal service. Mr. Lewis' body will lie in state at the Bethesda Baptist Church Friday from 3:00pm until the funeral hour of 4:00pm. Active pallbearers will include Kelly Mashburn, Scotty Mashburn, Walt Hartsfield, Michael Farley, Tripp Morrison, Hunter Hartsfield, Kade Mashburn, Jaren Jeffords, and Dwight Fuller. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home Friday at 2:15pm. Honorary pallbearers are Phil French, Kent French, Craig French, Stuart French, and Tommy Pass. Music will be arranged by Amy Hartsfield, Katie Farley, and Stephanie Gibson.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Thursday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.

In addition to flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Bethesda Baptist Church building fund.
