Charles Ray Fleming Sr

Mr. Charles Ray Fleming, Sr., age 87 of Oakman, passed away Monday, February 8, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Fleming was born on May 13, 1922 in Fernbank, Alabama, son of the late Walter Winfred Fleming and Liffie Lee Duncan Fleming. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Taylor Fleming; a son, Charles Ray Fleming, Jr.; two great-great grandchildren, Brittany Jones and Jocelyn Matthews; and two brothers, Clyde Fleming and Noel Fleming. During his lifetime, he served his country with the United States Army, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He later worked as a millwright for the Millwright Union # 1263, was a farmer, and was a member of White Graves Baptist Church, the Masonic order, and Shrine Club.

Mr. Fleming is survived by his wife, Ilene Fleming, a son, Larry Fleming of Oakman; four grandchildren, Lee Nelson, Lynette Hulsey, Lynne Jones and Lena Allen; and great-grandchildren, Avry Allen, Jonah Allen, Cody Jones, Destiny Jones, Elena Jones, Andrew Nelson, Alisha Nelson, Amilee Nelson, Austin Hulsey, Ashley Fleming, Aaron Reeves and Donovan Hulsey. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Ray Fleming, Sr. will be conducted Thursday, February 11th at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Brother Isaac Johns officiating. Music will be arranged by David and Tammy Glass. Pallbearers serving will include Andrew Nelson, Michael Jones, Andy Nelson, Ashley Fleming, Aaron Reeves and Cody Jones. Interment will follow the services at the Haven of Rest Memorial Park, with the Shanklin-Attaway Post # 5 of the American Legion Honor Guard of Rome conducting military honors. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday between the hours of 6:00pm and 9:00pm.
