Obituary

Charles Warren Craig, 78, of Calhoun, Georgia passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Advent Health Gordon following several months of declining health.
Charles was born in Fairmount, Georgia on December 29, 1943, the son of the late Rev. Frank and Willie Anderson Craig. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Ruth Thacker in 2000; two brothers, Jerry Craig in 1985, and Curtis Craig in 2016.
He was a member of the 1962 graduating class of Fairmount High School, a veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam, attained the rank of Tech SGT, served with Company B, 3rd Battalion, 1st Combat Support Training Brigade, and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal accompanied by several additional awards and decorations for distinguished and faithful service. Prior to retirement, he was employed with Lockheed Martin for 42 years and was a member of Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Foster Craig to whom he was married for 32 years; two daughters, Shannon Whittenburg and Heather Collins and her husband, Robert; four grandchildren, Grace Whittenburg, Will Whittenburg, Case Collins, and Cole Collins; one sister and brother-in-law, Faye Mashburn and her husband Max; two sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Tonya Wade Craig and Scottie Foster Knight and her husband Jimmy. Nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, June 12th at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with officiants including, J.Y. Jones, Drew Craig, and Eddie Brannon. Music will be arranged by Shannon Whittenburg, Darlene Weaver Wright, and Kenny Herron. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army Honor Guard from Fort Benning, GA. Burial will follow in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on Wednesday, June 22nd, at 1:00 PM.
Pallbearers serving will include, Will Whittenburg, Case Collins, Cole Collins, Drew Craig, Craig Mashburn, Mason Mashburn, Stanley Young, and Lewis Young. Honorary pallbearers include Mike Crider, Johnny Goble, James Hyde, Butch Lambert, Marvin McBee, Gary Pass, Ronald Parker, Caris Roland, Eddie Robertson, and Ted Smith.
The family of Charles Warren Craig will receive friends, Sunday, June 12th between the hours of 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home.
