Mr. Charley H. Dockrey, age 80 of Calhoun, died Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Gordon Hospital. Mr. Dockrey was born near Blue Ridge, GA on October 20, 1932, son of the late Lon Devo Dockrey and Josie Cearly Dockrey. He was retired from World Carpet, and was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during the Korean Conflict. Charley was a member and deacon of Antioch Baptist Church, and was a licensed minister of the gospel. He loved singing, and was a former member of the Sugar Valley Quartet.
Mr. Dockrey was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Delores (Dee) Dockrey in 1997; a daughter, Tracy Dockrey in 1987; a grandson, Dustin Dockrey in 2009; five brothers, Lon Jr., Ralph, Clinton, Cecil and Reed Dockrey; and by two sisters, Evelyn Grindstaff and Susie Hughes.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Louise Dockrey, to whom he was married for 13 years; a daughter, Teresa Dockrey Green of Sugar Valley; a son, Rick Dockrey of Calhoun; and step-daughters, Diane Garland, Sharon Rogers and Pam Erwin of Calhoun. Grandchildren surviving are Richard Dockrey, Jeremy England, April Nunnally and Angela Godfrey; step- grandchildren, Candi Hawkins, Casey Evans, Cameron Howard and Gabe Erwin; great-grandchildren, Mason Dockrey, Kannon England, Payton England, Chelsea Williams, Sarah Graham, Taylor Nunnally, Jamie Nunnally and Jordan Nunnally; and step great- grandchildren, Noah Evans, Bailey Hawkins and Ellie Erwin.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Charley H. Dockrey will be held Thursday, December 20th at 11:00 AM from Antioch Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Hibberts and Rev. Randy Muse officiating. Interment will follow in the Rock Creek Baptist Church Cemetery at Cherry Log, GA, with Rev. William Roberts in charge of the committal service. Pallbearers serving will include the Deacons of Antioch Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will include the Pioneers Sunday School Class.
