Christine Owens Balliew

Mrs. Christine Owens Balliew, age 92 of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Gordon Hospital. She was born in Bartow County on August 7, 1922, daughter of the late A.C. and Mae West Owens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Floyd Balliew; brothers, Charles Owens and Arthur Owens; a sister, Dorothy Owens; a brother-in-law, Hugh Don Davis; and a grandchild, Tanya Timms.

Christine was retired from Springs Industries. She was a member of Echota Baptist Church.

She leaves behind her sons and daughters-in-law, Coleman and Brenda Balliew, and Terry and Barbara Balliew, all of Calhoun; her daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Ronald Sexton of Calhoun; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernest and Betty Owens, James and Evelyn Owens, and Kenneth and Debbie Owens, all of Calhoun; and sisters, Paulene Owens Davis, Dolly McEntyre, Dymple Darnell and her husband Edward, and Lynda Galloway and her husband Jimmy, all of Calhoun. Grandchildren surviving are Dondra (Joey) Jordan, Ritchie Balliew, Stuart (Heather) Balliew, Jamie (Kelly) Balliew, Russell (Laura) Sexton, Gay (Douglas) Jones, Jackson Jordan, and Shane Pelfrey; and great-grandchildren, Allyson and Nicole Balliew, Brittney Benson, Baylee Balliew, Ryley Balliew, Brody Balliew, Nathan Sexton, Emily Sexton Rhinehart, Alex Johnson, and Reagan Jones. A host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Christine Owens Balliew will be held Friday, January 9th at 2:00 PM from Echota Baptist Church, with Dr. Brent Davis, Rev. Lamar Bearden, and Rev. Randy Davis officiating. Music will be arranged by the Peacemakers. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving are grandsons and great-grandsons and will include Stuart Balliew, Jamie Balliew, Nathan Sexton, Russell Sexton, Ritchie Balliew, Joey Jordan, Jackson Jordan, Douglas Jones, and Reagan Jones.

The Balliew family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, January 8th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

The family would like to thank Leslie Deperro and her team including Reva Green, Lori Burns, Chelsea Burns, Dorothy Jester, Jane Coffey, and Lucretia Dykes, for loving Christine and taking care of her.
