Mrs. Cora Pauline Waggoner, age 93 of the Hall Memorial Community, Calhoun, passed away Friday, June 4, 2010 at Gordon Hospital following several months of declining health.
Mrs. Waggoner was born on March 30, 1917 in Hamilton County, daughter of the late James L. and Janie Rebecca Wilson Powers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lewis (Bill) Waggoner, Sr., to whom she had been married for sixty years; and by two brothers, Caleb Powers and Ernest Powers. During her lifetime she was employed in the textile industry, having been associated with Aldon Mills and the C.M. Jones Company. She was a member of the College Street Church of God.
Mrs. Waggoner is survived by four daughters, Margaret Newsome of McDonough, Martha S. Suggs, Trudy Waggoner and Judy Butler, all of Calhoun; two sons, Willie Lewis Waggoner, Jr. and Charles Caleb Waggoner, both of Calhoun; a sister, June Young of Calhoun; grandchildren; Maurice Jones, Eddie Newsome, Dale Hornyak, Heather Timms, Kenni Smith, Shelley Davenport, Dusty Waggoner and Kase Waggoner; and great grandchildren, Jordon, Jessica and Joseph Hornyak, Miranda and Johnathon Timms, Brett and Ashlynn Talley, Katie and Kyle Davenport, Ariel Holbert and Emily Carter; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Powers; three nieces, Jean Cato, Martha Chamlee and Debra Powers; and a nephew, Randy Young.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cora Pauline Waggoner will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Keith Reid and Rev. Jimmie Timms officiating. Active pallbearers serving will include Brett Talley, Dusty Waggoner, Kase Waggoner, Eddie Newsome, Johnathon Timms and Joseph Hornyak. Honorary pallbearers are Christopher Bennett, Brett Timms, Tim Davenport, David Hornyak, Larry Black, Raymond Langley and Randy Young. Interment will follow the service in the Fairview Cemetery at Hall Memorial Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Monday between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00pm.
