Cordelia Welchel Hightower

Cordelia Welchel Hightower, 87, of the Plainville Community, died at Redmond Regional Medical Center on Monday, September 18, 2017. She was born in Cherokee County on December 15, 1929; Cordelia was the daughter of the late Solomon and Oveline Cox Welchel. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Hightower, in January of this year; they were married for sixty six years; dhe was also preceded by her brothers, Otis Welchel, Silvanus, Jack, Alton, and Lewis Welchel; her sisters, Martha Jones, and Williedee Carlisle.
Cordelia is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Randall Hightower, and Kenneth and Barbara Hightower; her daughters and son-in-law, Helen Henson , and Vivian and Gary Ralston; her grandchildren, Crystal (Tim) Cooney, Kacey (Brian) Wilson, Matthew (Kelsey) Hightower, Nathan Garland, Justin (Nina) Garland, Lucas (Angelica) Ralston, and Lacie (Thomas York) Ralston; her great-grandchildren, Kenly, Kaiden, and Kaleb Garland, Everly, and Ally Cooney; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Chester and Carol Welchel, and Bobby and Mildred Welchel; her sisters and brothers in-law, Ophelia Bowling, Colline and Jacky Cantrell, and Gladys and Fred Blalock; the nephews that she and Hobert raised together, Keith and Nena Jones, Donald and Delores Jones, Ronnie and Susie Jones; other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The Hightower family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from noon until 9:00 p.m. at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Chandler Cemetery. Pastor Chris Pack and Rev. Terry Reisner will officiate; graveside services will be conducted by Rev. Edith McCann Blair. Pallbearers are Matthew Hightower, Lucas Ralston, Thomas York, Travis Jones, Josh Bowling, and Craig Jones.
