Mr. George Creswell Black, age 79 of Resaca, GA, died Friday, November 21, 2014 at Redmond Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born in Gordon County on September 21, 1935, son of the late George and Lois Johns Black.
Cres was a graduate of the class of 1955 of Red Bud High School, and had retired from Mannington Mills in 1999 after 31 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Betty Ruth Crump Black; two daughters, Angie Putnam, and Renae Phillips and her husband Denny, all of Resaca; grandchildren, Brandon Putnam and his wife Melissa, and Tyler Putnam; great-grandchildren, Caden Putnam and Aisley Putnam; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. George Creswell Black will be held Monday, November 24th at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Isaac Johns, Rev. Eddie Brannon, and Rev. Jerome Silvers officiating. Interment will follow in the Fidelle Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Barry Tow, Joe Stone, Kevin Crump, John Gubaci, Dwayne Whitfield, and Jason Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers will be the Red Bud High School Class of 1955.
Honoring Cres' request, flowers will be omitted.
The Black family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 12:00 noon until 9:00 PM.
