Damon Keith Abernathy

Mr. Damon Keith Abernathy, age 46 of Rydal, Georgia, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010. He was born in Whitfield County on April 13, 1964, son of Kenneth Lanier Abernathy and the late Shirley Faye Cochran Abernathy. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Jared Abernathy; and grandparents, Rev. Waldon and Louise Abernathy, and Howard and Gertrude Cochran.

Damon was a member of the Adairsville High School, class of 1982, and enjoyed metal detecting and hunting. He was an active member and Sunday school teacher of The Church at Liberty Square in Cartersville, and was employed with the Bartow County Water Department.

Survivors include his wife of seven years, Rondi Shelton Abernathy; a son, Seth Jared Abernathy; a daughter, Sadie Olivia Abernathy; father and step-mother, Lanier and Patricia Jordan Abernathy; step-sons, Gavin Marez and Mason Marez, both of San Diego, California, and Hayden Sanders of Rydal; three brothers, Byron Abernathy and his wife Janet of Calhoun, Todd Abernathy of Adairsville, and Kevin Abernathy and his wife Kimberly of Cartersville; step-brothers, Christopher Nesmith his wife Julie, and Cary Nesmith; a step-sister, Elizabeth Cox and her husband Sean; and a sister-in-law, Kaley Guerra. Aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Damon Keith Abernathy will be conducted Saturday, July 3rd at 2:00pm from The Church at Liberty Square, with Pastor Jacob King and Senior Pastor Joe Edwards officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will include employees of the Bartow County Water Department. Music will be arranged by Pastor Ray Looney.
