Danny Eldon Hogan, 74, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away while surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. He was born on July 10, 1950, in Beckley, West Virginia, to the late John and Juanita Hogan, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger Hogan and John Hogan, Jr; sisters, Ella North and Ava Zieba.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Brenda Colleen Hogan; daughters, Christina (Jason Kesler) Hogan, Lisa (Jimmy) Hogan Self; grandchildren, Gwyneth Johnson, Audrey Self, Jonathan Self; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
As a minister, he visited anyone in need and never turned anyone away who showed up at the church looking for assistance. He ministered at hospitals, prisons, homes, and funerals, and answered calls day and night.
Later, as a hospital chaplain, he was the person many families turned to in their grief. He listened, prayed with, and offered comfort to so many people, again on call 24/7.
He transitioned to a hospice coordinator at the end of his career, where he dealt with death daily even as he became sicker and was no doubt thinking of his own death. He never once complained of his own pain, but instead focused on how other people were feeling, lending an ear or words of comfort.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from Calhoun Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1411 Rome Rd. SW, Calhoun, Georgia, 30701. For those unable to attend, the service will be streamed live on the Church's Facebook page.
