Rev. David R. White, Sr., age 76, of Calhoun went to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Rev. White was born in Floyd County, Georgia on July 18, 1938, son of the late L.M. White, Sr. and Lueralla Rigdon White. He was a 1957 graduate of Johnson High School in Rome and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp Reserves in 1955. After four years of service he was discharged and served the following three years in the United States Navy. In 1961 he married Mildred McGaskey. He was the owner of Whites Appliance since 1964. He was ordained as a Deacon at Damascus Baptist Church in Calhoun and was Licensed in the Ministry there in 1973 and Ordained as a Minister there in 1983. In 1988 he was called to Pastor Bangor Baptist Chapel in West Bangor, NY and remained as Pastor until 1995. He helped start Agape Baptist Church in Calhoun in 1996 and he and his wife were Charter Members. From 1996 until 2001 he taught Sunday School and led worship services at Cherokee Nursing Home in Calhoun. After sensing Gods call, he relocated to Essex, NY and re-started Foothills Baptist Church where he served as Pastor until 2009. After moving back to Calhoun he was called as Interim Pastor at Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church until January 2010. He was a member of Agape Baptist Church and was always willing to fill the pulpit as he was needed. He was a humble man of God and was faithful to his calling.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty White Owen and by three brothers, Lee White, Jr., Wm. Olander White, and James Franklin White.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred McGaskey White, one daughter, Cindy White Ray and her special friend William Lee of Adairsville; three sons, David R. White Jr. and his wife Joelene of Resaca, John L. White and his wife Wanda of Calhoun, and Robert White and his wife Rhonda of Calhoun; two sisters, Opal White Staton of Florida and Fay Nell White McClure of Rome, GA; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive.
A service to celebrate his life and ministry will be held Wednesday October 8th at 3:00 PM from Agape Baptist Church with Rev. Winfred Casey, Rev. Harold Clark, and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Music will be arranged by Rev. Harold Clark, Kevin, Laura Walraven, and Gary and Martha White. Pallbearers serving will include Jonathon White, Josh White, Alex Ray, Blake Ray, Brian Ruddell, and Matthew Ruddell. Honorary pallbearers will include active and retired pastors of the Gordon Memorial Baptist Association of Churches. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Gideons International in Rev. Whites memory.
The White family will receive friends Tuesday evening between the hours of 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home.
