David Van Burchett Sr

Mr. David Van Burchett Sr., age 51 of Plainville, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Redmond Regional Medical Center following several years of declining health.

Mr. Burchett was born in Gordon County on October 15, 1960, son of Rosa Holt Burchett and the late J.W. Burchett. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Joshua and Nakia Tinsley.

David was a loving father, husband and Papa. He loved God, the outdoors, motorcycles, fishing, horseback riding and all his animals, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Anyone who knew David could say he was a very strong person who would stand up for what he believed, while at the same time maintaining a great sense of humor. He touched the lives of many in such a way that he was looked at as a second father or brother. David's legacy will live on and he will be dearly missed. Before his health forced his retirement he was employed by the Gordon County Department of Transportation.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Dupree Burchett, to whom he was married for 27 years; three sons, Jimmy Lamar Burchett and his wife Megan of Calhoun, David Van Burchett, Jr. of Calhoun, and Joshua Charles Tinsley and his wife Chasity of Colorado Springs, CO; a daughter, Audria Nicole Burchett of Adairsville; two brothers, Rex Burchett and his wife Jan of Calhoun, and Darryl Tucker and his wife Hey-wan of Sanford, NC; and two sisters, Sandra Brackett and her husband Timmy of Calhoun, and Ann Burchett Bomar. Grandchildren surviving are Aaron Burchett, Kaylin Burchett, Preston Jack "PJ" Tinsley, Kaylan Tinsley, Jayden Tinsley and Landon Tinsley. Other survivors include mothers-in-law, Linda Faye Davis and Jennifer Dupree; sister-in-law, Allison Holbrook and her husband Derek; brother-in-law, Chris Langley and his wife Linda; along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of David Van Burchett Sr. will be held Friday, August 3rd at 6:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Trudy "Wolf Woman" Dobson conducting the service. Music will be arranged by Audi Burchett. The family will receive friends beginning Friday at 5:00pm at the funeral home.
