Delbert Gray

Mr. Delbert Franklin Gray, age 53 of Calhoun, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2010 in Alabama from injuries received in a vehicle accident.

He was born on June 21, 1957 in Johnson County, Kentucky, son of William (Bill) Gray and the late Ruth Copley Gray. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert (Bobby) Gray. During his lifetime he was employed with the Gordon County Sheriff's Office, the Adairsville Police Department, the Bartow County and Gordon County Emergency Medical Services, and the City of Calhoun Police Department. He was currently employed by Triple R Transportation Company, where he had logged over one million safe and accident free miles. Mr. Gray was a member of New Town Baptist Church and the Sonora Lodge # 221 F & AM, where he had received his 25 year membership pin.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Jolly Gray, to whom he had been married for 23 years; two daughters, Jenny Moore and her husband Jason of Cartersville, and Cora Lumpkin and her husband Ray of the Nicklesville Community; two sons, Josh Gray of Calhoun, and Charles Gray of Dalton; four grandchildren, Tanner Gray, Ben Moore, Mollie and Megan Owens; his father; William (Bill) Gray of Calhoun; three brothers, Rev. George Gray of the Plainview Community, Doug Gray of Fairmount, and Phillip Gray of Calhoun; mother-in-law, Opal Jolly of Calhoun; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Grady and Sharon Jolly of Calhoun; a sister-in-law, Vicki Carroll; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Emory and Carol Jolly. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Delbert Franklin Gray will be conducted Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 12:00 noon from the New Town Baptist Church, with Rev. Stacey Hensley and Rev. Walter Hare officiating. Music will be arranged by Jeff Rogers. Active pallbearers will include, Chris Burger, Steve Yancey, Greg Ray, Jerry Henderson, Ricco Wells and Adam McDaniel. Honorary pallbearers are Kathy Ray, Autumn Ray, Alex Harstine, Ruth Hill, Elsie Williams, Chris Williams, Vickie Graham, Kenny Seabolt and Randy Seabolt. Interment will follow the service at the Fain Cemetery with Masonic rites being conducted by Sonora Lodge #221 F & AM. Mr. Gray will be carried to the New Town Baptist Church on Monday, where the family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 9:00pm, and on Tuesday morning until the funeral hour.
