Denise Smart, 81, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024. She was born on September 21, 1942, in Pargny-sur-Saulx , France, to Jean and Georgette Marque. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Smart, a granddaughter, Cecelia Lopez, a sister, Jeanine Wolman, and a brother, Jean Claude Marque.Denise is survived by her son, Jerry Smart, and daughters, Renee Smart, and Kathleena (Steven) Lee, her grandchildren, Anthony (Rosie) Lopez, Angelita (Chase) Newman, Billie Jean Smart, Naomi Lee, and Shanna Lee, and many great-grandchildren, her brother, Francois (Chantal) Marque, and a sister, Bernadette Frampton. She is also survived by her best friend, Florence Gerhards.
Ms Smart enjoyed sewing, painting and many crafts. She graduated high school in France at twelve, and was selected for a scholarship to study in college. She won first place in her embroidery classes. She has a keen green thumb, loved gardening, and gave her roses and plants to anyone who wanted one, She was an avid reader with an ever growing personal library.
After retiring from Shaw, she became very well loved as the sample lady at Kroger, buying candy out of her own money to hand out to kids.
Denise had a huge heart, quick intellect and wonderful sense of humor.
Heaven has gained an angel in our sweet mother.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
