Dewey Brendel

Mr. Dewey Brendel, age 86 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, August 30, 2010 at Gordon Hospital. He was born in Pickens County on April 29, 1924, son of the late Albert and Agnes Hightower Brendel. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Brendel in 2007; a sister, Mildred Fields; and four brothers, E.J. Brendel, Junior Brendel, Horace Brendel, and Truman Brendel.

Mr. Brendel was retired from Lockheed as an inspector. He was a devout Christian and loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruth Long Brendel; three sons, Michael Brendel and Becky Rutledge of Calhoun, Ronald Brendel and his wife Becky of Adairsville, and Terry Brendel and his wife Dawn of Acworth; five brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Coda Brendel, and Gene and Marie Brendel, all of Detroit, Michigan, Glen and Lois Brendel, Wayne and Margaret Brendel, and Ray and Donna Brendel, all of Fairmount; and a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Trammel Reece of Jasper. Grandchildren surviving are Stephanie Bradford, Amanda Torres, Ashley Brookshire, Tegan Brendel, Lexi Brendel, Ali Brendel, and Nicolas Brendel. Great-grandchildren are Adam and Nick Bradford, and Claudia Torres. Nieces, nephews, and many other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Dewey Brendel will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Walter Hare officiating. Interment will follow in Gordon Memorial Gardens. Music will be arranged by Stacey Bradford. Active pallbearers will include Junior Brendel, Matthew Brendel, Brian Brendel, Trammel Reece, David Green, and William Torres.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00pm until 9:00pm.
