Obituary

Doris Gaines Hunt, 95, of Calhoun, died Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Morning Pointe Assisted Living, following several years of declining health. She was born in Whitfield County, GA on November 22, 1923, daughter of the late John W. and Nell Sexton Gaines. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Paul (W.P.) Hunt; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Margaret Gaines, John and Lillian Gaines, and Ralph and Eva Gaines; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Bob Bishop, and Mary and Bill Wilbanks.
Mrs. Hunt was a wonderful seamstress. She loved gospel music, and was a founding member of the Red Carpet Cattlewomens Association. She was a member of Calhoun First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Gloria Hunt; her daughters and son-in-law, Benita and Danny Erwin, and Pam Hunt; her grandchildren, Jeff Erwin, Monte Erwin, Stacy Hunt, April Hunt, and Misty Hunt Smith; her great-grandchildren, Madeline Erwin, Caleb, Amelia, Allison, and Paul Hunt, and Colby, Braden, and Emily Smith. Nieces, nephews, and special friend Hazel Moss also survive.
Services to honor the life of Doris Gaines Hunt will be held Friday, May 3rd at 2:00 PM from Calhoun First Baptist Church, with Dr. John Barber, Dr. Bert Vaughn, and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Jeff Erwin, Monte Erwin, Stacy Hunt, Heath Smith, Billy Wilbanks, Joel Daily, and Greg Weaver. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Hunt, Wesley Hunt, Jamey Hunt, Seth Hunt, the staff of Morning Pointe Assisted Living, Denese Smith of Hearth Hospice, members of the Red Carpet Cattlewomens Association, members of the Red Carpet Cattlemens Association, and members of the Ruth Sunday School Class of Calhoun First Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at Calhoun First Baptist Church on Friday from 12:00 noon until the service hour of 2:00 PM.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staffs of Hearth Hospice and Morning Pointe Assisted living for their care and compassion for Mrs. Hunt.
In addition to flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Mt. Pleasant UMC Cemetery Fund, c/o Phil French, 394 Cash Road, Calhoun, GA 30701.
