Mrs. Dorothy Mae Jones Smith Arnold, 80, of the Sugar Valley Community, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at her home.
Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Sugar Valley. She was born on September 19, 1937, daughter of the late Richard Franklin Jones and Bessie Mae Williams Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brothers and sisters, Valeria Wilson, Helen Rodgers, Clarence Jones, E.O. Currence, Juanita Shrive, Virgil Jones and R.A. Jones.
Dorothy was a hard-working Christian mother and wife who loved her family dearly. She enjoyed attending her grandchildrens scholastic events, and was their biggest supporter. She was a member of the 1955 graduating class of Sugar Valley School, where she excelled in basketball. Throughout her life, she was active in various community clubs. She was a faithful member of Sugar Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Arnold of Sugar Valley; daughter, Sandra Smith Bearden; three sons, Eddie Smith and his wife Kyle, Ricky Smith and his wife Stacey, and Michael Smith; step-daughter, Suzanne Arnold; two step-sons, Alan Arnold and Steve Arnold; grandchildren, Savannah and Jacob Sullivan, Mallory and Thomas Odom, Lauren and Joey Moss, Sierra Waters, Sydney Smith, Mason and Mia Smith; step-grandchildren, Louis and Ayden Arnold, Bradi Parkevitch, and Quade Burgess; great grandchildren, Natalie, Eli, and Nora Sullivan, Samuel Odom, and Rhett Moss; step-great grandchild, Percy Parkevitch; three sisters, Sue Holsomback, Nell Brown and Sarah Beth Barker; and one brother, Max Jones.
A service to celebrate the life of Dorothy Mae Jones Smith Arnold will be held Saturday, January 20th at 2:00 PM at Sugar Valley Baptist Church. Pastor Mitch Phillips, Rev. Dennis Reagan and Rev. Howard Duvall will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sugar Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Joey Moss, Jacob Sullivan, Thomas Odom, Cody Franklin, Joey Potts, and Scott Brown. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Adult 1 Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, January 20th, between the hours of 12:00 noon until the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sugar Valley Baptist Church in Dorothys memory.
