Dorothy Mae Gravitt

July 15, 1935 — April 18, 2009

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Gravitt, age 73 of Sugar Valley, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009 at her residence. She was born in Gordon County on July 15, 1935, daughter of the late Jack and Ora Lee Hughes Turner. Mrs. Gravitte had been an employee of Mohawk Industries, and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, and a brother, J.T. "Sonny" Turner.

Survivors include four sons, Steve Freeman, Paul Freeman and his wife Brenda, Ricky Freeman and his wife Sherry, and Jerry Gravitte, all of Calhoun; two daughters, Lisa Holloman and her husband Brian, and Tammy Silvers, both of Calhoun; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Carlene Turner of Calhoun; and three sisters, Audry Offutt, Ann Johnson, and Faye Angel, all of Calhoun. Sixteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Mae Gravitt will be conducted Wednesday, April 22 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Brother Delmar Ledford officiating. Interment will follow at the Erwin Hill Church of God Cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as active pallbearers. The family will begin receiving friends at the funeral home Monday at 3:00pm, and will continue Tuesday and Wednesday until the funeral hour of 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Georgia Chapter of the American Alzheimer's Association, 855 Abutment Road, Suite 6, Dalton, GA 30721.
