Dorothy Vaughan

Mrs. Dorothy Vaughan, age 76 of Brasstown Creek Estates, Young Harris, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the Emory Johns Creek Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Vaughan was born on November 30, 1939 in Dalton, GA, daughter of the late Clarence Massingill and the late Scottie Prater Massingill.
Dorothy was a member of the Misty Mountain Quilters Guild. She loved sewing and gardening. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Larry Massingill. She attended Sharp Memorial Methodist Church.
Survivors include her loving husband, Robert Vaughan of Young Harris; two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Laura Vaughan, and Joe and Monica Vaughan; her daughter, Susan Brooks all of Gwinnett County; brothers and sisters-in-law, Hugh and Frances Massingill of Resaca, GA, and John and Juanita Massingill of Cartersville; a sister, Evelyn Crump of Calhoun; a sister in law, Bobbie Massingill of Oklahoma City; and grandchildren, April and Alex Vaughan, Jordan and Patrick Brooks, and London Vaughan. Many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 13th at 3:00 PM from the Sharp Memorial Methodist Church in Young Harris, GA, with Rev. David Tinsley officiating.
The family will meet with friends following the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrfcure.org) in Mrs. Vaughans memory.
