Mr. Doug D. Thomason, 73, of the Nicklesville community, died on Sunday, February 8, 2015 after a lengthy illness.

Doug was born in Murray County on May 16, 1942; he was the son of the late Allen and Arkie Elizabeth Crook Thomason. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Marcel Wilson Thomason, in 2010; his brothers and sisters-in-law, L.B. and Alfie Thomason, Howard and Lois Thomason, Leonard and Agnes Thomason, James and Clair Lynn Thomason, Calvin and Mary Evelyn Thomason, B.W. Thomason, and Mrs. Bennie Thomason; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Bessie and Sam Silvers, Mary Faye and Earnest Silvers. Doug, along with his brother, was the founder and owner of Thomason Carpets; he retired from Tri-Graphics. He was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church. Doug loved spending time with his grandchildren, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Donald Lee and Bobbie Thomason, of Resaca; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Tony Simerly, of Rome, and Rita and Roger Sartin, of Chatsworth; his grandchildren, Kristi Watson, Stephanie Sartin, Marshall Watson, Cody Chastain, Steven Thomason, Caitlin Simerly, Allen Thomason, and Daniel Sartin; his great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Sartin, Emory Mae Watson, Daylan Neighbors, Braiden Thomason, and Aubry Chastain; his brother, Rev. Gene Thomason, Mack and his wife, Lillian Thomason; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Curtis Cronan; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. from Maple Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Payne, Rev. Duane Smith, and Rev. Gene Thomason officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Doug's sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers; honorary pallbearers are Stephen Thomason, Barry McMillan, and Dewayne Cronan. Mr. Thomason's body will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from noon until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m.
